First, I would like to thank everybody who has supported the Bayou Soul Writers and Reader’s Conference over these past three years. It has been an amazing journey where we have entertained, inspired and motivated hundreds of youth from Baton Rouge and New Orleans Upward Bound Programs. We have given away scholarship money to college and bought in National Best Selling Writers from around the country. We have honored book clubs and have seen readers and writers come together in a very collaborative and supportive environment. However, with all of this that has happened, we believe the best is still yet to come! I am excited to announce that the Bayou Soul Conference is moving to the month of February and will no longer coincide with the Essence Music Festival. We would like to give our readers and authors the ability to come to the event and not have to worry about the hassle of higher air fares and hotels that typically surrounds a major event as Essence. February is a great time to honor black writers as it is Black History Month. Although we are moving to February, you can still expect the same level of professionalism and entertainment as well as bestselling authors. In addition, our next conference in February is set to take place Saturday the 28th 2015. This event will also pay tribute to the late, Dr. Maya Angelou who was my friend and mentor. We have an exciting program planned with writers, poets, singers and dancers who will come to offer their talents in support of this historical moment as we honor this legend in the literary community. So, we look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 28th 2015 as we go to new heights! Make sure you like us on Facebook at Bayou Soul Conference and please visit our website for updates.
